Prices and Sending

How much is a postcard?
On the iPhone a postcard is $1.49 for domestic addresses and $1.99 for international addresses. On Palm phone a domestic card is $1.89 and an international card is $2.49.

Where is my postcard printed?
All cards sent from Cardsender are printed in Connecticut, USA.

Who delivers my postcard to its final destination.
US Postal Service and their international partners.

Can I send a postcard again?
On Apple devices your postcard design will remain in the archive. On Palm devices only your last postcard design will be preserved.

When will my postcard be sent?
Usually within 24 hours of submitting the card (with the exception of weekends and public holidays).

When will my card arrive at its destination?
USPS claims to deliver all mail nationwide (United States) within five working days. Unfortunately, we occasionally get reports of cards taking longer to arrive. Winter storms or other weather can affect delivery times. Please let us know if you card has not arrived after 10 days.

Billing

What payment methods are available?
In the US versions of our apps we offer payment via Clickandbuy and PayPal. You can also buy a voucher code on the website for later use in the apps.

Will I get an invoice?
For single cards we don't generate invoices. If you are a sponsor you will naturally receive an invoice by autoprint GmbH.

Is it possible to get voucher codes as a gift?
A voucher code allows sending cards from any device that has Cardsender installed.

Customer Service

What's behind the name Cardsender?
Cardsender and it's German counterpart “Kartensender” is a personalized Service for iPhone, iPod touch, Palm Pre and Palm Pixi users. Cardsender produces and ships individually designed postcards. The Cardsender apps and all associated services are offered by autoprint GmbH (Cologne, Germany).

Is it necessary to register for this service?
No, it is not necessary to register.

Is there an order status?
Since there is no registration, there is no order status.

Can I get a refund for the printing quality of the postcard?
The print quality depends mainly on the individual picture data and for this reason no claim can be made.

Why can I not send my postcard?
There is a bad connection or there is no network reception.

Can I send postcards to destinations abroad?
A postcard can be sent to anywhere in the world. For destinations outside the US, the price per card is slightly higher than for domestic cards.

Can I send cards abroad?
You can send your card to any place in the world that has postal service.

Product

What printing quality can I expect?
The postcard will be printed on the most modern of digital printing machines and glossed on the front side.

How heavy is the postcard?
The printing paper is of type Trucard 300g/m2.

Which format does the postcard have?
A DIN A6 postcard (WPC, World Postcard) has the following measurements: 148mm x 105mm.

How much text can I enter on the back of the card?
You have 450 characters (including spaces) available for your postcard text.

How much space is there for the address?
For the address you have four lines with 28 characters each and a selection box for the country.

Technology

Is my data good enough to be printed?
A photo from the iPhone camera has a resolution which sometimes is even better than a picture from the photo archive.

Colour mode RGB or CMYK?
RGB colours are automatically converted to CMYK for printing.

Can my data have a profile?
Embedded profiles will be taken into consideration if they are present.

Which data formats can be used for a postcard?
All photos which are shown on the iPhone, iPod touch, Palm Pre and Palm Pixi can be used.

What resolution should a picture data have?
Your picture should have at least 450 x 640 pixel resolution for digital printing.

What will happen if the resolution is less than the recommended value?
The picture could show a step effect or be slightly blurred.

Should the file be compressed?
The iPhone has automatic picture compression.

Technology

Can I optimize my picture for the postcard?
There are tools for picture optimization in the APP store in the camera section. Examples are: Photogene, Photopict oder iFlashReady.

Will my picture be distorted?
The picture will never be distorted in any way, it will be enlarged proportionally.

Can I use only a section of an iPhone photo?
The resolution of the camera is pretty low, you should not reduce it even further by cropping the image.

Which resolution does the iPhone camera provide?
The camera of a 3G and 3GS are mostly different by their resolution. The camera of the iPhone 3G provides 1600 x 1200 pixel. The camera of the 3Gs is already 2048 x 1536.

Which resolution is required for a postcard?
1600 x 1200 pixel are enough for printing a postcard. This resolution is already present on the iPhone 3G. Converted this is equivalent to 274 dpi (dots per inch) orr 108 ppc (pixel per centimeter).

Technology

Can I also use larger image files for a postcard?
Generally, you can load image files larger than those created by the internal iPhone camera. The use of larger image files is, however, not recommended because the processing times during card creation in Kartensender and the upload time to our server can both become rather lengthy.

What does a blurred screen preview mean?
It is possible that your photo is blurred or the picture resolution is too low.

Can I use any picture from the internal archive for a postcard?
Any picture which is stored in the internal archive of the iPhone can be used for a postcard.

Why is my picture slightly cut back?
The DIN A6 postcard format is not proportional to your picture format.

Is it necessary to allow for cutting back?
An edge of 2mm is automatically cut back from the picture during processing due to technical requirements of our printing process.

What can I do if I cannot find any pictures in my archive?
Just take a picture with the internal iPhone camera.
